I worked with Brian Oakes on motion design for this documentary on Charles and Ray Eames, creating a house of cards from their legendary and fun interlocking-card set, but adding imagery from the film and the feel of the era.

Designed for print & motion for REAGAN – Eugene Jarecki’s HBO feature documentary reexamining the life of our 40th President. We selected photos that echoed the film’s unique look at man and myth, a type strong enough to represent his impact (both real and imagined), and a minimal approach to get out of the way of the material.

Reagan debuted at Sundance in January 2011 in the documentary premieres category and broadcast on HBO in February 2011.

Producers Rob Hatch Miller & Puloma Basu invited me to contribute kitschy, hollywood style titles and a couple of little extra motion graphic shots to this fake bio pic trailer of a music video written & directed by Tom Scharpling of “Monk” fame. It was very gratifying to collaborate with him on such an idiosyncratic and fun project of passion, where so many talented people contributed, and the fun of the process was so evident in the final product. “Moves” is an official selection of SXSW 2011.

The second video in my nascent “Fire-Works” series is a collaboration with the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University. Professor of International Political Economy Mark Blyth was game for my hope to help opinionated, smart people willing to talk about complex topics in a way that might make sense for an audience beyond their classroom, and might fit well with my hope both to help explain the speakers point, and layer my own perspective on top. We worked back and forth via e-mail on the material to edit and hone his message, and then after the shoot (with DP Ian McAlpin), edited, animated and composed.

Mark’s writing for the piece is based on thinking going toward his forthcoming book, Austerity: The History of a Dangerous Idea. The piece launched a new media initiative for Watson.
